revision:
An outline is a line that is drawn around elements, outside the borders, to make the element "stand out".
The outline property is a shorthand property for: "outline-width", "outline-style (required)", "outline-color. If outline-color is omitted, the color applied will be the color of the text.
Unlike a border, the outline is drawn "outside" the element's border, and may overlap other content. Also, the outline is "NOT a part" of the element's dimensions; the element's total width and height is not affected by the width of the outline.
outline-width : specifies the width of outline
outline-style : specifies the style of the outline
outline-color : specifies the color of the outline
initial : sets this property to its default value.
inherit : inherits this property from its parent element.

code <div class="a">A div element with a 2 pixels blue dashed outline. Also notice that the outline is outside of any border.</div> <style> div.a {border: 1px solid red; outline: 2px dashed blue;} </style>
- specifies the color of an outline. Always declare the "outline-style" property before the "outline-color" property. An element must have an outline before you change the color of it.
